Getting wedding guests home safely from a rural Southern Indiana venue
By the Venue Answers team · · 2 min read
The prettiest venues around Louisville are often 25 to 55 minutes from downtown, on country roads. That is part of the appeal and the main logistics problem. At 11 pm in rural Harrison County, an Uber can be a long wait or no ride at all. Plan the ride home before you plan the bar.
What rideshare really looks like out here
Uber says it serves Corydon around the clock, and also warns that pickup times may be longer than in bigger cities. In practice, late-night rides out of rural Southern Indiana and outer Kentucky counties are unreliable. Uber Reserve, which books a ride in advance, is the better bet for guests who insist on rideshare. Do not make it the plan for everyone.
Option 1: A shuttle from the hotel
The most reliable plan for a rural venue is a shuttle between the guest hotel and the venue, with a run at the start of the evening and one or two runs at the end. Charter companies serving the Louisville and Southern Indiana area include:
- Miller Transportation, Louisville. Charter buses, minibuses and trolleys across Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio.
- Xtreme Transportation, which says it serves Louisville and Southern Indiana weddings. (502) 795-3525.
- Louisville Charter Bus Company, a charter network for wedding shuttles. (502) 586-4543.
Get quotes from more than one. Ask about minimum hours, wait time between runs and whether the driver's time is billed from the garage or from the first pickup.
Option 2: Overnight parking
Ask the venue whether guests can leave cars overnight and pick them up the next morning. Guests who know they can leave a car are much more likely to take a safe ride home. Put the pickup window on your wedding website.
Option 3: Stay close
A hotel block 15 minutes from the venue makes every other option easier and cheaper. For venues near Palmyra and Corydon, that is the Corydon hotels on I-64. Hotel areas by venue location.
Option 4: Lodging on site
Several venues we track have lodging on the property, usually for the couple and the wedding party. It will not hold every guest, but it takes the people most likely to stay late off the road. Each venue page lists whether there is lodging on site.
A simple plan that works
- Block rooms at the closest hotel area.
- Book a shuttle with runs at the start and end of the night.
- Confirm guests may leave cars overnight.
- Put all three on one guest page and text it to everyone. Our free guest guide builder does this in two minutes.
- Have the DJ announce the last shuttle 30 minutes before it leaves.
Budget for it
We include a guest shuttle line in the cost estimator as a planning number. Charter pricing varies by vehicle size and hours, so get real quotes once you know your venue and hotel.
